Icon: Grace Kelly

Before her birthday month was over, I wanted to highlight one of my biggest design inspirations: Grace Kelly.  So many things to say about such an iconic woman, but really her name says it all: Grace, and that is what this gorgeous princess exuded throughout her life.

Considered one of the best actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Academy Award winner made a huge dent in cinema and theater in only six short years.  She retired in 1956, and married Prince Rainier of Monaco, becoming Her Highness the Princess of Monaco.

Notorious for her classic style, her pearls and the fabulous Hermes bag named after her, Princess Grace has been an inspiration for designers and fashionistas for decades.  Her ladylike demeanor and fad-resistant looks are definitely worth re-creating as they never go out of style.  These matching pearl and diamond ring and earrings, from my new "Wanderlust" collection, bring to mind her timeless elegance.

these pearl and diamond earrings are the epitome of chic.

Even though she favored pearls, Princess Grace also had an impressive jewelry collection.  Her favorites houses were Van Cleef and Arpels and Cartier.  Here she is wearing her famous Van Cleef diamond tiara, also one of my favorite all time jewelry pieces.  Set in platinum, with pear, marquise and round cut diamonds, this tiara is now part of the Van Cleef private collection.

Another one of her famed Van Cleef pieces is this beautiful coral and diamond brooch circa 1981, which also had a matching ring, very similar to those I have designed for my new collection.

Grace Kelly brought elegance and charm to her role of princess.  Her fairy tale romance with Prince Rainier of Monaco captivated the entire world, and though she never returned to the screen after their marriage, she always remained an international style icon.  I surely have always turned to Princess Grace for design and style inspiration.  May her legacy live on and on.
